Shumpty’s Punt: Sunday Special

It is Sunday and that means, unsurprisingly, there is sport to watch and punt on. I have looked at the sport that is on and have come up with this tip as my best of the day:

New Zealand Warriors to cover the line (-15.5 points) against the Cronulla Sharks at Mt Smart Stadium.  This bet will return $1.88 (on ladbrokes.com.au).

As always:

  1. Please gamble responsibly.
  2. Whilst all care is taken with these tip no responsibility vests for losses incurred.

The Weekend Multi: Sport, sport and more sport!

Despite there being no Super Rugby to watch this weekend it goes without saying that there remains a plethora of sport for us to watch this weekend.  I think there is some value in this multi coming from this weekend’s fixtures:

Leg 1: Essendon to defeat Richmond by less than 40 points in the AFL.

Leg 2: Melbourne to defeat Newcastle by greater than 13 points in the NRL.

Leg 3: North Queensland to defeat West Tigers by greater than 13 points in the NRL.

Leg 4: Geelong to defeat Freemantle by less than 40 points in the AFL.

This multi will pay around the $14.50 mark.

As always:

  1. Please gamble responsibly.
  2. All care is taken with these tips but no responsibility vests for loses incurred.

The Weekend Wager

Here is a four leg multi for sports fans out there interested in having a flutter this weekend:

Leg 1: Gold Coast Suns to defeat the Brisbane Lions by less than 40 points in the AFL.

Leg 2: Crusaders to cover the line (-7.5 points) against the Sharks in Super Rugby.

Leg 3: Canterbury Bulldogs to cover the line (-4.5 points) against the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL.

Leg 4: New Zealand Warriors to defeat the Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL.

This multi will pay $16 for each dollar invested.

1. Please gamble responsibly.
2. All care has been taken with this tips but no responsibility vest in me for losses incurred.

Friday Fun Tip: Ipswich Racing

Happy Friday Punters! And it being Friday, that means there is racing on at my “home” track, Bundamba (Ipswich).

I always look for the quality jockeys who have made the trip west to Ipswich from the city when I look for winners at Ipswich and there is no better up here than J Byrne.

I like Byrne’s mount in the second, Hi Mackay. Ignore its last start where it had a trouble passage from the gates and the horses form looks cherry ripe here.

Best Bet: Ipswich, Race 2, Number 3 Hi Mackay

The Weekend Multi

Here is this weekend’s sports multi:

Leg 1: South Sydney to cover the line (-6 points) against Parramatta in the NRL.

Leg 2: Penrith to cover the line (+ 10 points) against Sydney in the NRL.

Leg 3: Brumbies to defeat the Chiefs by 1-12 points in Super Rugby.

Leg 4: Essendon to defeat the Western Bulldogs by 1-39 points in the AFL.

Only 4 legs that I am keen on this weekend and, having learned from previous weeks, I am only going to include those games that I am keen about.  This multi should return around $19 for each dollar invested.

As always:

  1. Please gamble responsibly.
  2. All care is taken with these tips however no responsibility vests for losses incurred.

The Thursday Tip: The Open Championship

Tonight, Australian time, my favourite golf tournament of the year kicks off at Royal Liverpool Golf Club: the Open Championship.

Golf is difficult spot to tip: in part because the difference in talent between the world number 1 and world number 100 is not all that much and in part because the weather can play such a role in how a round plays out, particularly in this tournament.

All of that said, having run the ruler over the combatants for year’s Open, there is one name that I keep coming back to and that is Martin Kaymer. No player in 2014 has been in better form than the man from Dusseldorf. At $17 he is well worth a wager, particularly in the market to make the top 10.

At the other end of the spectrum, one player I will be laying this week is Graeme McDowell. “GMac” did win on the European tour last month but that aside has not been in form for a while. Also he possesses an ordinary record in majors since his 5th at the Open in 2012 having missed the cut in three of the seven majors since then and never being in the top 10. $26 is unders for mine.

One of the things I love about the Open is that generally there is a “roughie” that pops up on the leaderboard. For me, that man this year is Jamie Donaldson. He is ultra consistent on the European tour and at $71 will be getting a nibble of cash from me.

So here are my Open tips for 2014:

Best Bet: Martin Kaymer
Best “Roughie”: Jamie Donaldson
Lay: Graeme McDowell
