Wednesday Wager: MLB All Star Game

It is All Star game day in Major League Baseball. This is always a great game of baseball to watch and is particularly interesting given the short spells given to starting pitchers in the game.

I think there is great value for punters in this bet:

Total Game Score greater than 7.5 runs

This tip is paying $2.00 for each dollar invested.

1. Please gamble responsibly.
2. Whilst all care is taken with all tips given on this blog, no responsibility for losses vests.

Saturday Specials: no bets today

I ran my eye over the form guide last night and was left more than a bit uninspired by what I saw so today is a no bet day for me.

The Weekend Multi

It has been a while since I posted a weekend sports multi. I have been busy and just haven’t been in a punting mood. That said: I had a little bit of time on the golf course this afternoon to ponder the weekend’s sport and have come up with this multi:

Leg 1: San Francisco Giants to cover the line (-1.5 runs) against the San Diego Padres in the MLB.

Leg 2: Chicago White Sox to cover the line (-1.5 runs) against the Seattle Mariners in the MLB.

Leg 3: Gold Coast Suns to defeat Collingwood by 39 points or less in the AFL.

Leg 4: Sydney Roosters to defeat Cronulla by 13 points or more in the NRL.

Leg 5: Fremantle Dockers to defeat the Melbourne Demons by 39 points or less in the AFL.

Leg 6Argentina to defeat Belgium in the World Cup.

Leg 7: Sharks to defeat the Cheetahs by 13 points or more in Super Rugby.

This multi should pay around $200 per dollar invested.

The Weekend Multi

I am not having a punt on the races this weekend, but I have run the ruler over the sport on this weekend and have come up with the following five leg multi that I am feeling quite confident about:

Leg 1: Richmond to cover the line (+24.5 points) against Sydney in the AFL.

Leg 2: Canberra to cover the line (+3.5 points) against the Bulldogs in the NRL.

Leg 3: Total game score great than 2.5 goals in game between France and Switzerland in the Soccer World Cup.

Leg 4: Hawthorn to defeat Collingwood by 1-39 points in the AFL.

Leg 5: Cronulla to cover the line (+9.5 points) against Manly in the NRL.

This multi should return around the $26 mark for each dollar invested.

Ipswich Cup Day: Best Bets

The biggest sporting event in Australia today is not a game a soccer or rugby: it is the Ipswich Cup. The jewel of the winter carnival coming from the Ipswich Race Course just a stones throw from my childhood home, this is one of the greatest days on the sporting calendar.

I have been to many an excellent day of racing at Ipswich on Cup day and whilst it is always a difficult day for the punter there is always, also, some value to be found.

My brother-in-law has a theory when it comes to races on Ipswich Cup Day: just back any horse with Jim Byrne on its back. Normally I laugh off this theory but, as you will see from my tips, I have a feeling it is going to be a big day for Byrne at Ipswich.

Best Bets:

Race 1: Number 9 La Tikka Rosa

Race 4: Number 5 Tax Rebate

Race 5: Number 5 Jazz Song

Race 6: Number 1 Alma’s Fury

Race 7: Number 3 Brave Ali

Race 8: Number 3 L’entrecote

As always:

1. Please gamble responsibly.
2. All care is taken with these tips but no responsibility for losses incurred.

Multi Bet Lament: missing by one leg

I posted a seven leg multi bet on Friday. Anyone who does sports betting and likes to do so via multi bets will know that they are oft over after the first contest. On those occasions, I simply shrug my shoulders and start thinking about next weeks bet.

This weekend though I have been left to lament missing out on a seven leg multi because of one result and, indeed, the most expected result. This weekend the result needed was Essendon to defeat GWS by greater than 39.5 points which was the result across all of the seven that I had chosen that I thought was going to be the easiest to collect. Unfortunately the Bombers did not get the job done and only won by 15 points.

Now: is this a tragedy? Absolutely NOT! The fact is that the multi bet that I put on every weekend is more about the mental arithmetic that comes from trying chose winners than the weekend than making any money.

All this weekend proves is that often the most expected result is the one that leads you to losing. I am sure there is a lesson in life there isn’t there too? Maybe that is a blog for another time. In the interim: time to start scouring the sports pages again to come up with any multi for next weekend with one eye, maybe, on looking for the least expected result rather than the most expected!
