Shumpty’s Punt: Super Bowl Special

The Super Bowl kicks off at 9am Brisbane time on Monday morning.  I have really enjoyed the season of the NFL, the New York Jets form notwithstanding, and now we are at the pointy end it comes down to the two best sides in the competition battling it out for the spoils of the Super Bowl.  One team, the Seattle Seahawks, is the best defensive team in the NFL and the other team, the Denver Broncos, is the best offensive team in the NFL. All of which will make for a very interesting finale to the 2013/14 season.

I have been impressed with the play of the Seattle Seahawks all season and I see no reason to doubt they will defy the current odds, and the weight of sentiment support chafing for a Manning led Denver Bronco victory.  I am tipping the Seahawks to win. To be on the safe side though, I will be taking the 1.5 line available.

This encounter though is unlikely to a free flowing and high scoring affair given the likely weather conditions and the fact that the Seahawks have proven themselves to be absolute masters of shutting down an opposition and that being the case I do not expect the teams to get anywhere the “above / below” points line which is currently set at 47.5 points.

That being the case, my Super Bowl best bet is a double of these two suggested bets as follows :

Seattle Seahawks to cover the line (+1.5 points) into a total points score of less than 47.5 points.

On sportingbet.com.au this double is paying $3.60.

This will be a fascinating battle.  If you are having a bet: good luck! If not: sit back and enjoy one of the great days in the annual sporting calendar.

Shumpty’s Punt: NFL Championship Week

The NFL season is nearing its end and this week presents two excellent games in the battle for the NFC and AFC championships. I have been following the season closely and, despite the New York Jets not make the finals, have been very impressed with the games so far in finals month.

In the AFC the Manning led Denver Broncos host the Belichick coached New England Patriots. In the NFC last year’s a Super Bowl losing San Francisco 49ers travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks and their metaphorical 12th man.

Here are my tips for each game (commencing Monday morning Australia time):

AFC: New England Patriots to cover the line (+5.0 points) against the Denver Broncos

NFC: Seattle Seahawks to cover the line (-3.5 points) against the San Francisco 49ers

Both games will be willing encounters which, particularly the game in Seattle, could well be low scoring and dominated by defence which, for me, gets the Patriots and the Seahawks over the line.

Put both of those tips together in a multi and it will pay just short of $4. Can’t wait for the first game to start!

Shumpty’s Punt: Mega Weekend Multi

It is a massive weekend of sport across multiple codes. Here is an eight leg multi that kicks off tonight and ends on Monday morning and traverses tennis, basketball, soccer and American football.

The multi will kick off at around 7:40pm with Novak Djokovic taking on Denis Istomin.

Leg 1: Novak Djokovic to defeat Denis Istomin in 3 sets at the Australian Open.

Leg 2: Washington Wizards to cover the line (-4.5 points) against the Chicago Bulls in the NBA.

Leg 3: Agnieszka Radwanska to defeat Anastasia Pavlyunchenkova in 2 sets at the Australian Open.

Leg 4: Arsenal to defeat Fulham in the EPL.

Leg 5: Liverpool to defeat Aston Villa in the EPL.

Leg 6: Chelsea to defeat Manchester United in the EPL.

Leg 7: New England Patriots to cover the line (+5 points) against the Denver Broncos in the NFL.

Leg 8: Seattle Seahawks to cover the line (-3.5 points) against San Francisco 49ers in the NFL.

This multi will pay around $37 for each dollar invested.

As always: please gamble responsibly.

Shumpty’s Punt: Mega Weekend Multi

It is a massive weekend of sport worldwide and, as I have had a ton of time on my hands this week with being on leave, I have come up with a multi bet the traverse basketball, ice hockey, soccer and American football.

Multi:

Leg 1: Dallas Mavericks to defeat the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA.

Leg 2: Pittsburgh Penguins to cover the line (-1.5 goals) against the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL.

Leg 3: Chelsea to defeat Hull City in the EPL.

Leg 4: Everton to defeat Norwich in the EPL.

Leg 5: Seattle Seahawks to cover the line (-8.0 points) against the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.

Leg 6: Denver Broncos to defeat the San Diego Chargers in the NFL.

This multi should pay around the $30 mark for each dollar invested.

Best Bet:

If you are not keen to go as wide as a six leg multi, my best bet of the weekend is in leg 2.  The Pittburgh Penguins has been in awesome form on its current tour of Canada and come up against the worst defensive team in the competition on Saturday (Australian time) against the Edmonton Oilers.  They should cover the line (-1.5 points) easily and at $2.65 that is my best of the weekend’s sport.

As always: good luck and good punting.  Please gamble responsibly.

Shumpty’s Punt: Monday Sports bets #2

The best bet of the day was successful and with one game in the NFL regular season to go, I think there is another bet that could reap rewards for punters in that game.

The Eagles host the Cowboys to decide the winner of the NFC East. Neither side has set the world on fire offensively this year and now the Cowboys are without their starting QB in Tony Romo.

All of this points to a low scoring encounter and that being the case the best bet arising out of this game is the total match score being under 52.5 points. This bet is paying $1.91 on Sportingbet.

Bet: Total game score between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys to be less than 52.5 points

Good luck and good punting.

Shumpty’s Punt: Monday Sports Bets

It is the final round of the NFL season (before the finals) and at the start of the round there were 13 of 16 games that could have effected the finals make up.

One such game is the Kansas City Chiefs v San Diego Chargers game commencing in around 35 minutes. It looks like the results will fall such that a Chargers win will see them in the playoff. At the same time the Chiefs have rested Jamaal Charles for their final run in coming weeks.

Charles’ aside, this is still a Chiefs team that has gone 11-4 this year. I can not believe they are presently posted at $4.70 to win this game and that the line is 13.5 points.

I am tipping the best bet of the morning to be Kansas City Chiefs to cover the line (+13.5 points) against the San Diego Chargers. This bet is currently paying $1.80 so other punters obviously agree with me.

That said, I have not been convinced by anything I have seen this season and read over this week that the Chiefs are so reliant on Charles that they ought be a $4.70 chance. I think that is massive overs and I am going to take a piece of that action too.

The game starts at 7:25am Brisbane time.
