Shumpty’s Punt: Saturday Special

I have not had a Saturday bet for a while but I have one tip for this weekend that I can not go past so I thought I would pass it on here.

In Race 6 at Eagle Farm today (Ascot Handicap) I am tipping Bymonashee to win at value in this race.  The horse should be reading peak in this race third up after a spell and has a great draw from the seven barrier.  The form line here is quite impressive with the horse having only be bested by short margins by two Group 1 winners, Tiger Tees and River Lad in recent starts.

Currently at $6.50 / $2.35 on the fixed price market on sportingbet.com.au my investment will be each way but with a great deal of confidence.

As always:

  1. Please gamble responsibly.
  2. All care is taken with this tip however no responsibility for any losses incurred.

Ipswich Cup Day: Best Bets

The biggest sporting event in Australia today is not a game a soccer or rugby: it is the Ipswich Cup. The jewel of the winter carnival coming from the Ipswich Race Course just a stones throw from my childhood home, this is one of the greatest days on the sporting calendar.

I have been to many an excellent day of racing at Ipswich on Cup day and whilst it is always a difficult day for the punter there is always, also, some value to be found.

My brother-in-law has a theory when it comes to races on Ipswich Cup Day: just back any horse with Jim Byrne on its back. Normally I laugh off this theory but, as you will see from my tips, I have a feeling it is going to be a big day for Byrne at Ipswich.

Best Bets:

Race 1: Number 9 La Tikka Rosa

Race 4: Number 5 Tax Rebate

Race 5: Number 5 Jazz Song

Race 6: Number 1 Alma’s Fury

Race 7: Number 3 Brave Ali

Race 8: Number 3 L’entrecote

As always:

1. Please gamble responsibly.
2. All care is taken with these tips but no responsibility for losses incurred.

Stradbroke Handicap Day: Best Bets

The winter carnival continues at Eagle Farm this weekend with Stradbroke Handicap Day.  Here are my tips for another of the great days on the Australian racing calendar:

  • Race 4: Adebisi (2) (e/w)
  • Race 6: Brazen Beau (1)
  • Race 8: Knoydart (10) (e/w)
  • Race 9: Moriarty (1)

As always:

  1. Please gamble responsibly.
  2. All care is taken with these tips however, obviously, no responsiblity for losses incurred.

Winter Racing Carnival: Doomben 10,000

I love the winter racing carnival in Brisbane and Doomben 10,000 day was always my favourite day to get to the track. I haven’t been in attendance at the track for a few years but this is always a day that gets the pulse racing for me.

Here are my tips for the day at Doomben (with some commentary):

Race 2:

Can’t go past Agitate (No 1) here. Will be too good for this field and loves Doomben having collected each of its 5 wins there.

Race 4:

Follow the form here and there is no better form in this race than that around Leebaz which means my tip is Wistful (No 13). Has been crushed in the fixed price market so I would get on early.

Race 5:

After my first two tips of the day I went searching for a bit of value in this race and on that score I can not fault Jazz Song (No 14). Has improved markedly this preparation and has been gagging for the increase in distance. Each way special for mine.

Race 6:

Back to the short prices for Race 6 because there is no way I can go past Brazen Beau (No 2). Absolutely smashed a similar field in the Champagne Classic and has a trainer (Waller) who loves this race.

Doomben 10,000 (Race 8):

The big race on the card looked like a race in two between Spirit of Boom and Buffering when the nominations closed and the field was finalised. However when I looked at the form my eyes kept coming back to a runner I was on last start, Knoydart. Everything is pointing to a winning performance with this runner: right training, right jockey and right stable. Add in the right odds and this horse is my pick to take on and best the more fancied runners.

As always:

1. Please gamble responsibly and within your means.

2. All care is taken with these tips but no responsibility for losses incurred.

Have an excellent Doomben 10,000 day whether you are at the track or watching from home.

Shumpty’s Punt: Saturday Best Bets

Race 5: Number 9 Go Indy Go (each way)

Shumpty’s Punt: Saturday Multi

It is Saturday and that means one thing: sport!

Here is a four leg multi that I am feeling very confident about:

Leg 1: Fiorente to win the BMW Stakes at Rosehill.

Leg 2: Northern Pride to cover the line (-2.0 points) against Norths Devils in the Intrust Super Cup.

Leg 3: Canberra Raiders to cover the line (+5.5 points) against Penrith Panthers in the NRL.

Leg 4: Queensland Reds to cover the line (-7.0 points) against the Western Force in Super Rugby.

This multi will pay around the $25 mark.
