Shumpty’s Punt: Emirates Stakes Day

Emirates Stakes day brings to an end another wonderful week of racing at Flemington. Polanski’s success in the Derby aside, it has been a barren period on the punt for this blog. That being the case I am limiting my exposure this week and focusing on the big race only with one exception being a tip that think is a moral in Brisbane. No multi today for multi fans: am still poleaxed from the Dallas Stars (NHL) costing me a pay day twice in three days.

Race 7:

Best bet: Toydini (Number 4) (each way)
Best roughie: Solzhenitsyn (Number 1)

My cousin “Dangerous” Dave aka “Fat Guts” swooped in the last on Derby Day and picked up Smokin’ Joe at $46. I am not ignoring the tip again and will have a little each way wager here too.

Race 6:

Have been following Tail and All from the Heathcote yard for some time and can find no reasons for it not to win today.

As always: good luck and good punting!

Shumpty’s Punt: the Wednesday Wager

It is the end of the season in the baseball in the US whilst the NHL season is now well underway and Australia is playing India in ODI cricket in India. From these three sports, here is multi that I think has a great chance of getting up. The first leg goes at 6:05am tomorrow so you will have to get on tonight or the first thing in the morning to take advantage of this bet.

Leg 1: Detroit Tigers behind Justin Verlander to defeat the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS ($1.64)

Leg 2: Toronto Maple Leafs to defeat the Minnesota Wild in the NHL ($1.67)

Leg 3: India to defeat Australia in the cricket ($1.60)

This multi will pay $4.38 for each $1 invested (all prices courtesy of

Horse racing tomorrow in Queensland is from Eagle Farm. I have a couple of horses I like going around that might be worth a wager:

Race 2: Shattering (Number 8)
Race 6: Plumage (Number 2)

As always, please gamble responsibly and only bet what you can afford to lose.

Have a great Wednesday!

Shumpty’s Punt: Sneaky Wednesday Wager

It is Show Day in Brisbane and, as has become traditional, there is a massive day of racing on at Eagle Farm. It is not your usual race crowd that attends the day but that should not stop punters from having a sneaky Wednesday Wager if they so fancy.

Here are couple of chances I am keen on from today’s Eagle Farm program:

Race 1 Number 10 Shattering
Race 4 Number 8 Darlin Jules
Race 8 Number 4 Western Shadow

As always: only bet what you can afford to and gamble responsibly.

Shumpty’s Punt: BTC Cup Day

The first weekend of the Brisbane Winter Carnival beckons tomorrow at Eagle Farm. It is always easy to tell: I had to go to three different newsagents before I could pick up my best bets this week and I have been asked by a staff member for some tips before she heads to the track.

I have had a look at the form and here are my selections for the day at the Farm:

Race 1: I’m Cool (Number 10) each way.

Race 2: Hooked (Number 3)

Race 3: Purfectress (Number 5)

Race 4: Dusty Gold (Number 6) each way.

Race 5: Lucky Lucky Lucky (Number 9) each way.

Race 6: Quintessential (Number 3)

Race 7: Buffering (Number 1) Best Bet of the Day

Race 8: Mishani Warrior (Number 12) Bit of value in the last for the “Get Out Stakes”. each way.
