Poetry (Anzac Day): For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon

On this Remembrance Day this poem is worth reading and reflecting upon.

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Quote of the Day

“Leadership is about setting a direction. It’s about creating a vision, empowering and inspiring people to want to achieve the vision, and enabling them to do so with energy and speed through an effective strategy. In its most basic sense, leadership is about mobilizing a group of people to jump into a better future.”

John P. Kotter

Quote of the Day

“Most successful people have little interest in listening to those individuals who cannot add value to a situation or topic but force themselves into a conversation just to hear themselves speak. Good communicators address both the what and how aspects of messaging so they don’t fall prey to becoming the smooth talker who leaves people with the impression of form over substance.”

Stakes Day: Tip Sheet

The week long festival of spring racing ends today with Stakes day at Flemington.

Not super keen on much today but will be having two each way bets on two of my favourite horses:

Race 6 Number 1 Buffering
Race 7 Number 7 Huckelbuck

I wouldn’t say I am filled with confidence today after a horrid Oaks Day but will be keeping a keen eye on these two runners.

As always:

1. Please gamble responsibly.
